Bacon’s Show and Tell

Showandtellfix

Hi (furry)friends,

Because Granny didn’t schedule

this post,

we almost forgot

Bacon’s Show and Tell

with this month’s theme:

What you always wanted

when you were a child…

but never got.

Showandtell1fix

Well, Granny, this one is on you..

I’m to busy looking

for the only living toy

I ever wanted anyway…

Showandtell5

When Granny was four years old,

she had to go to the hospital

for an operation

and when she came out of the hospital…

after ages a week or so…

she was allowed to pick out

a nice toy in the toy store…

And she did…

hijskraan

She was crazy about

this yellow halyard…

but there was only one problem…

she was allowed to pick out something…

but that didn’t meant that she’ll get it…

ever!!

babypop

Instead of it she got something like this,

but in a white colour…

Granny is still in shock remembers

this day like it was yesterday.

She never was told

why she didn’t get the halyard,

but she felt sad

for a very long time.

showandtell7

Better I give her a headbutt now….

and a purr…

– P A W K I S S E S –

for a

Wonderful Weekend

Have fun 🙂

Hello Binky Sherri-Ellen here. I can so relate to Granny! I wanted a train set but never got one. I always wondered if it was thought to be a ‘boys’ toy??? Mind you I had a pair of sixshooters & a holster belt….
I think that halyard would ahve been alot of fun…better than a *shudders* dolly in a crib….LOL….

Sherri-Ellen, Granny got a train, when she was about 9 years old. She didn’t took no for an answer anymore, when she got bigger. You and Granny could have played together cowboys with the shooters…hehehe..maybe entering a cowboy movie with indians and the train…that doll could have been the prisoner..she was in a kind of prison already anyway…and sweet Nylablue and me could have been your horses…What you said, Granny. No I’m not getting out of my mind, I only have a fantasy running 😀 😀 Thanks for sharing your story with us, Sherri-Ellen and Nylablue. You get some extra Pawkisses for that 🙂 ❤

Chuckles: i hate when that happens. you give sad eyes so you can get some tasty treats and all they bring out is the same old dry, and i mean DRY, not tasty dog food. pffft! i feel your Granny’s pain. well at least my belly does. ugh. well let me give your Granny a Ruff-Hugs and hope i don’t leave too much dirt on her face. ruff-huggggggs to you too, LB! 🙂

All the other kids had a particular doll. Everyone played in dollhouses with them…I had to use a borrowed one or a “too small – not right” one. For my birthday I was promised a doll – and pointed to the one I wanted, but my mom bought the one she wanted – a one over a foot tall. She made dresses for it and complained she spent all that money and I didn’t appreciate it. Then she complained I didn’t play with the others kids – ignoring the fact that they wouldn’t let me play ’cause I didn’t have a doll. Sigh.
So I just went out and rode my brother’s bike and caught tadpoles and frogs….and she got mad about that, too.
Luckily, there’s RC Cat to make sure sure things are done properly here now. (giggles – paw waves!

As much as Mom L loved her dolls, she also enjoyed playing with her older brothers dump trucks and such. Bet’cha Granny can find one of those old vintage halyard’s on eBay!!!

There were so much more emphasis on “gender appropriate” toys back in those days Little Binky. Hope that you found your mousie!

A sign of the times – “No! That’s a boys toy!” Sigh…. When my daughter was about four years old she wanted a toy pistol. Her father said the above quote and I was horrified – a pistol! But eventually I got her one. She ran around practising her quick draw technique for a few weeks and shooting around corners like you saw in all the best cowboy movies of the time. Eventually it was put away and never played with again. Now she wouldn’t hurt a fly [literally!] and is a gentle souled pacifist 🙂 I think she played that out of her system and I sometimes wonder what would have happened had we continued to deny her that opportunity?

Granny had a toy pistol too, Pauline, but that was years later, when she didn’t took NO for an answer anymore..MOL… You’re so right, it’s not up to the pawrents to decide and it certainly doesn’t say anything about changing gender, of getting into trouble later, because of it. I think there’s no toy needed for that anyway 😀 Thanks for sympathizing with us. You’ll get an Extra Pawkiss for that 🙂

The toy Granny wanted looks like a great cat toy. You could bat those hanging things back and forth.

She needed it, Mumsy and Chancy, but she played with the halyard when my twofeet brother got one. That was 39 years later…well, better late than never, as I would say 😉 Chancy, we thought we had subscribed on your bloggie weeks ago, but never got updates and yesterday Granny saw that we hadn’t. Granny can be so confused sometimes…she says hormones 😀 Pawkisses 🙂

What a beautifully framed picture! So unfair when stupid adults take it upon themselves to know better than the child what the child wants – or give something that THEY would have wanted.

That’s right, Col, they always make choices for you…but Granny played with the halyard of my little twofeet brother, so she had a chance to play with her dreamtoy anyway…even it was 43 years later 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy Sunday 🙂
